Tax brackets

The Netherlands uses tax brackets for income tax: the more you earn, the higher the percentage you pay on the excess. Box 1 has two brackets: income up to around €75,000 is taxed at a lower rate, income above that at a higher rate. The system uses marginal taxation — only income above the threshold falls into the higher bracket. As an entrepreneur, you apply brackets after deducting all business allowances.
